I believe unions and progressive organisations should harness the power of good design, strategic communications and social media.

My goal is to provide strategic advice, and other professional communications and campaign services for progressive causes.

Alex holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree and a Masters of Public Policy and Management from the University of Melbourne. He is currently undertaking a Postgraduate Diploma in Management (Marketing) at the Melbourne Business School.

He is a campaigns, communications and policy professional with strong experience across the tertiary education sector. His experience is complemented by professional and leadership roles in community and political organisations (with a focus on climate change policy action) which gives him an edge in managing alliances and developing relationships.

He has been at the front line of world class communications and marketing campaigns and has worked on highly successful industrial collective bargaining campaigns. As founding director of Creative Unions, Alex has raised trade union design and campaign standards internationally.

He has excelled in tough environments of politics including in tactical units for Australian election campaigns, as General Secretary of a student population of 42,000, and as Treasurer of 10,000 graduates at The University of Melbourne.

He is experienced in the design and influence of specific policies, focusing on climate change and tertiary education, at State Government and Federal Government levels, and has first-hand experience with political campaigning. He has received a number of external awards and recognition for political/union contributions.

For the past three years, he has focused on innovative communications techniques and new media in particular, effectively melding online campaign techniques with traditional offline approaches. His approach that has been internationally recognised by the International Labor Organisation’s Declaration Program, and UNI Global Union International.

Alex has lectured at Victoria University on public relations and media management. He is also a Climate Reality Project Presenter and was personally trained by the Hon. Al Gore in 2009.
